WHAT IS A TRADE CARD?

The FCIA Trade Card is a formal industry recognition for flooring installers, and is also the benchmark in the Australian industry for professional, qualified floor coverings installers. When you show your Trade Card to clients, they will know that you have met the high performance standards required by the Academy and are a specialist installer in certain types of floor coverings.

To be eligible for a Trade Card, you must work for a Member of the FCIA, either as an installer, contractor. If you hold a flooring qualification, you are eligible to apply for a Certified Installer card.
If you have at least  5+ years in the industry, you will be eligble to apply for an Endorsed Installer card. You must also undertake an assessment to satisfy the skills, knowledge and on-the-job experience requirements for the level of Trade Card you are applying for.

The FCIA’s Trade Card program will recognise previous trade qualifications, prior learnings and competency, and offer training in areas where skills gaps are identified. For more information or to apply, please contact us.

How to Apply

1. Download the self assessment form.

2. Complete the details and send the form by email attachment, fax, or post with the relevant requested documentation.

Email: info@fcia.org.au
Fax: (03) 8676 4976

3. An assessor from the National Training Academy will contact you to discuss the next steps.

If you already hold a trade qualification and are able to demonstrate current competency in all the units you have selected for your new qualification, you will automatically qualify for the Certified Installer card. If the assessor requires further evidence of your competence, they may ask you to provide more information on your experience.. If you need 'gap training' to satisfy particular units from the qualification, the assessor will work out a training plan with you. In many cases, this will involve attending classes, workshops, and completing theory modules via e-learning (costs for these units are POA).
